Shipping to South Africa

We recently loaded this Land Rover Defender in a 20' container for shipment to Cape Town, South Africa.

The owner was a South African national returning home after living and working in the UK for ten years.

She was able to qualify for an import duty waiver on the vehicle as a returning resident.

We have been shipping cars, motorbikes and personal effects to South Africa for over twenty years and have reliable local agents at all the main ports who can assist with import customs clearance formalities on arrival.

The business started from a small top floor office in Gravesend town centre back in 1994 before moving to our current larger riverside premises and warehouse facility at Denton Wharf in 2001.

Classic VW Camper's Longest Journey

Here at Wavecrest we are often asked to ship classic VW Camper vans both to and from the UK.

 

More often that not they are shipped into the UK from countries such as the USA, South Africa, Australia or like these ones, from New Zealand. They are quite often restoration projects.

 

Recently, however, we were asked to ship the VW Camper van pictured above from the UK to Vancouver as the owner was emigrating to Canada with his family. He did not want to leave his pride and joy behind.

 

The van was dropped off at our warehouse in Gravesend, Kent where it was then carefully lashed and secured into a 20' container for the 11,500 mile voyage.

 

The van was originally imported into the UK from Germany and since then the owner has embarked on a number of adventures including driving it across the Sahara to Morocco and back.

 

The 30 day voyage to Vancouver will be it's longest journey yet.

Wanted: New Right Hand Man (or Lady)

....to work in our busy Gravesend, Kent shipping and forwarding office....

The pay is nothing special, but you will find the work interesting and varied.

We are a shipping, freight forwarding and warehousing company established in 1994, and like to think pretty good at what we do.

I need someone to help keep me on the straight and narrow.

You must be from a shipping or freight forwarding background, articulate, numerate, have a good working knowledge of IT, resourceful, organised, good with people, mature in attitude and flexible.


You will never be bored but sometimes challenged. One day you might be arranging a pallet delivery to Newport Pagnell and the next organising the shipping of a Mclaren F1 super car to New Zealand.

As far as I know everyone who has done this job (only 3 in the last 20 years) enjoyed it. Age is not important. The oldest doing this job was 65; the youngest, 18.  

The reason for the ad is that Charlie is retiring for a well deserved rest after over forty years in the business.
